Henry County Schools Enhance Fleet with 16 New Buses

Henry County Schools have approved the purchase of 16 new school buses, marking the fifth year of their fleet modernization initiative.

The acquisition includes 12 propane-powered, 72-passenger buses and eight gasoline-powered, 48-passenger buses, 209 equipped with air conditioning.

The $2.5 million purchase, part of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program, will cost the district $2.2 million after state reimbursements. The buses were quoted through the Yancey Bus Sales state contract.

With this purchase, the district has added 125 new buses over five years, aiming to replace aging vehicles and enhance student transportation safety and comfort.

The new buses are expected to be operational by the start of the next school year, further advancing the district's commitment to modernizing its transportation services.

Noel Magic Lights Returns to EchoPark Speedway This Friday

Noel Magic Lights is lighting up EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, starting Friday, November 21, 2025.

Gates open at 5:00 PM nightly, inviting guests to drive through a dazzling array of animated light displays synchronized to festive tunes.

Ingredients:

8 fresh peaches - peeled, pitted and sliced into thin wedges
¼ cup white sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup white sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
¼ cup boiling water
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

Gather all ingredients
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F

Combine peaches, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a large bowl; toss to coat evenly, and pour into a 2-quart baking dish. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, combine flour, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Blend in butter with your fingertips or a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water until just combined.

Remove peaches from oven, and drop spoonfuls of topping over them.
Mix 3 tablespoons white sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together in a small bowl; sprinkle over entire cobbler.
Bake in the preheated oven until topping is golden, about 30 minutes.
