“Hampton Students Surprise Seniors With ‘Kindness Harvest’ Project”

This week, Hampton celebrated a beautiful moment of community spirit when students from Hampton High School’s Service Club surprised residents at the Heritage Senior Center with what they called a “Kindness Harvest.”

The project began as a small idea from a group of students who wanted to give back during the fall season. With donated supplies from local families and businesses, they created care baskets filled with:

  • Handmade cards

  • Cozy socks

  • Mini pumpkin breads

  • Fall-scented candles

  • Puzzle books and snacks

But the best part wasn’t the gifts — it was the students spending time talking with seniors, listening to their stories, and even singing a few requested songs.

Center director Marie Latham said the moment brought “so much light and laughter” to residents, many of whom rarely receive visitors during the holidays.

“These kids reminded our seniors that they’re loved and remembered,” she said.
“The smiles in the room were priceless.”

Students said the event meant just as much to them.

“We didn’t expect to make new friends today,” one student shared.

“We thought we were bringing the joy — but they gave it right back to us.”

Local businesses, inspired by the students’ generosity, have already contacted the center to ask how they can contribute to future events.

The Service Club plans to return in December to deliver holiday stockings and host a “Senior Story Hour.”
