Hampton National Historic Site Embarks on $14 Million Restoration |
Major Rehabilitation to Preserve Historic Structures and Enhance Accessibility |
The Hampton National Historic Site is set to undergo a significant transformation, thanks to a $14 million investment from the Great American Outdoors Act.
This funding will facilitate the rehabilitation of up to 14 historic buildings, including the mansion, greenhouses, overseer's house, and the quarters where enslaved families once lived.
These efforts aim to preserve the site's rich architectural and cultural legacy while making it more accessible to all visitors.
Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025 and is expected to span approximately two years.
Beyond structural repairs, the project will incorporate modern amenities and accessibility improvements, ensuring that the stories of those who lived and worked at Hampton are shared with future generations.
This restoration is not just about preserving buildings; it's about honoring the complex history of Hampton and creating educational opportunities for the community.
Once complete, these enhancements will make the site safer, more accessible, and more meaningful for residents and visitors alike.
