The 2026 Academy Award nominations have been announced, and Georgia's influence is unmistakable, with local talent and filming locations prominently featured.

Teyana Taylor, a longtime Atlanta resident, has earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another. Reflecting on her connection to the city, Taylor remarked, "I love it here. It's about Black excellence. There's so much love and soul here. And, of course, the food is amazing."

One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, leads with 13 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film's narrative and performances have resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike.

Veteran actress Amy Madigan received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Aunt Gladys in the horror film Weapons. The movie, directed by Zach Cregger, was filmed in various metro Atlanta locations, notably Brockett Elementary School in Tucker and a BP gas station in Covington.

Documentary filmmakers Ryan White and Jessica Hargrave, both graduates of Chamblee High School, have been nominated for Best Documentary Feature for Come See Me in the Good Light. The film, which won the Festival Favorite Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, delves into the life of the late poet Andrea Gibson.

In the Best Documentary Short Film category, The Devil Is Busy, directed by Geeta Gandbhir and Christalyn Hampton, focuses on a day at an Atlanta abortion clinic, shedding light on the challenges faced by both patients and staff.

Nathan Engelhardt, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), has been nominated alongside Jeremy Spears for Best Animated Short for Forevergreen. Their work showcases the depth of talent nurtured within Georgia's educational institutions.

Atlanta-based makeup artist Shunika Terry has been recognized in the Makeup and Hairstyling category for her work on Sinners. Terry's contributions have been integral to several Atlanta-shot productions, including Ironheart and Atlanta.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with Conan O'Brien set to host. Georgia's significant presence among the nominees underscores the state's growing influence in the film industry.
